Josh Earnest: Comedy can be ‘really burden-lifting’
Top Obama spokesman Josh Earnest says when Washington’s got him down, a few laughs can help lift him up.
“When I really don’t want to think about politics — and this is often on my drive home — I listen to Comedy Central,” the White House press secretary tells “The Press Pool” host Julie Mason for a SiriusXM special, “Debriefing Josh Earnest.”
{mosads}“A little standup routine at the end of your day can be really burden-lifting,” Earnest adds.
Besides getting in his one-liners and wisecracks, the 41-year-old Missouri native also says he unwinds with ’90s tunes and other music.
“I also like country music, actually. I think Texas had an influence on me early in my life,” Earnest, who once worked on a campaign in the Lone Star State, says.
But the communications guru is remaining mum about what his next move, after President Obama leaves office, might entail.
“You sound like my wife,” he says with a laugh to an audience member, after being asked what’s next during a Q&A session.
“I don’t know if I will continue to have politics as part of my career,” he says, “but I’m always going to be interested in politics and I’m always going to be interested in the kind of political debate that’s critical to the success of our country.”
The discussion with Earnest airs throughout the weekend, including Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m., on SiriusXM’s POTUS channel, 124.
