LeBron: ‘Not trying to make a statement’ with Trump boycott
LeBron James says he’s “not trying to make a statement” by boycotting a Donald Trump hotel as the Cleveland Cavaliers travel to play the New York Nicks on Wednesday, and that he wishes the president-elect luck.
“I’m not trying to make a statement,” James told reporters Wednesday. “It’s just my personal preference.”

Reports emerged earlier this week that James and other Cavs were refusing to stay at the Trump-owned hotel with the rest of the NBA team.
The Milwaukee Bucks, Memphis Grizzlies and Dallas Mavericks have also stopped staying at Trump properties when they play in New York and Chicago, following the real estate mogul’s victory on Election Day, according to ESPN. A fourth unnamed team planned to take similar action after the current season when its contract with the Trump hotels ends.
“At the end of the day, I hope he’s one of the best presidents ever for all of our sakes, for my family, for all of us,” said James, who endorsed former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in October.
