Senator who called for ‘Jimmy Kimmel test’ on healthcare to appear on his show

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), who said that any healthcare reform plan the Senate puts together should pass the “Jimmy Kimmel test,” will appear as a guest on his show Monday evening.

ABC confirmed to ITK that Cassidy will sit down with the comedian on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” It will be Kimmel’s first show back after returning from paternity leave.

Kimmel delivered a teary-eyed monologue last week on his eponymous program, revealing his newborn son had two heart defects requiring surgery. The funnyman made an impassioned plea for keeping ObamaCare, and specifically protections for people with preexisting conditions, during his remarks, which came days before the House approved GOP leadership-backed healthcare reform legislation.

When asked in an interview on CNN last week whether he could support a plan that included yearly or annual insurance caps, Cassidy, a medical doctor, replied, “I ask, does it pass the Jimmy Kimmel test? Will a child born with congenital heart disease be able to get everything she or he would need in the first year of life? I want it to pass the Jimmy Kimmel test.”

The “simple answer,” Cassidy said, is “I want to make sure folks get the care they need.”

Actor Zach Galifianakis, “Black-ish” star Tracee Ellis Ross and music group Logic are also poised to appear on the late-night show.
