House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said Thursday that “it was a beautiful day” to catch up with U2 singer and activist Bono.
“It was a beautiful day to catch up with Bono,” Ryan tweeted.
On Wednesday, Bono met in the ceremonial Speaker’s office with House GOP leaders, including Ryan, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) and House GOP Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Wash.).

During the U2 frontman’s trip to meet with lawmakers on Capitol Hill, Bono also signed a card on Wednesday for House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), who is still recovering from a gunshot wound.
During his concert on Tuesday, Bono said he was “grateful” Scalise and aides survived the shooting last week when a gunman opened fire on the lawmakers who were practicing for a congressional GOP baseball game in northern Virginia.
Bono is a co-founder of One, an organization that is “a global campaign and advocacy organization with more than 7 million members committed to taking action to end extreme poverty.”
The One campaign said in a statement that Bono was “meeting with Republican and Democratic lawmakers from both chambers about fully funding the International Affairs account in the FY18 budget.”
Bono has made repeated trips to the Capitol over the years, even testifying before a Senate Appropriations subcommittee last year about the role of foreign assistance in ending violent extremism.
