Massachusetts man launches ‘Colbert for President’ campaign

A Massachusetts man who wants Stephen Colbert to run for the White House in 2020 is touring the country, taking out billboard ads and selling bumper stickers promoting the late-night host’s hypothetical White House run.

Uncle Sam Rounseville, who changed his legal name to “Uncle Sam” in the 1990s, owns the billboard at a busy intersection in Quincy, Mass., and put up a “Colbert for President 2020” sign with a large photo of the comedian smiling in front of an American flag backdrop.

Dressed up in a red, white and blue “Uncle Sam” suit, Rounseville stood in front of the billboard to wave at passerby Wednesday.

{mosads}The 77-year-old Rounseville shouted “Stephen Colbert is no joke,” according to The Patriot Ledger newspaper.

Rounseville said he thinks Colbert could have a shot in the next presidential election because comedians “can make things happen.”

“Comedians can make a lot of noise, they are serious in their own way,” he told the publication.

Rounseville says he’s going on a nationwide tour as part of his Colbert draft campaign.

Last month, Colbert appeared on a Russian talk show and joked that he was running for the 2020 election.

Colbert said that he would welcome Russian help in the election “in an unofficial capacity” — a reference to Russian interference in the 2016 campaign.

Colbert announced mock plans to run for the 2008 presidential election, but later dropped his bid.
