Trevor Noah on Trump’s Russia comments: ‘How can someone lie so big?’
“Daily Show” host Trevor Noah on Tuesday tore into President Trump’s longstanding denials of any contacts with Russia in the wake of reports that his company planned to build a Trump Tower in Moscow during last year’s presidential race.
“You have no connections with Russia, but you signed a deal to build the world’s tallest building there?” Noah asked.
“How can someone lie so big? The gap between the lie and the truth could not be wider. It could not be wider.”
{mosads}Noah aired footage of Trump repeatedly denying having any communication with Russia and saying he has not spoken to anyone related to Russia or had any contact with officials there.
“It’s like if your friend said that they had never heard of Mumford and Sons, and then one day you see the album cover, and you’re like, ‘Wait a minute. You’re Mumford.’ ”
Reports emerged this week that Trump had planned on building a Trump Tower in Moscow while he was running for president, with one of his business associates, Felix Sater, saying that the deal with Russia would “get Donald elected.”
“I will get [Russian President Vladimir] Putin on this program and we will get Donald elected,” Sater said in a leaked 2015 email. “Our boy can become president of the USA and we can engineer it. I will get all of Putins team to buy in on this, I will manage this process.”
