Late night host Conan O’Brien will film shows in Haiti later this week in response to President Trump reportedly calling it a “shithole” country.

“I have no idea what the president has against the people of Haiti, but if the president doesn’t like them, they must be lovely people,” O’Brien said on his show Monday night.

“I’m sure I’m going to love Haiti, because Trump hates it so much. What I’ve noticed is whenever that guy hates something, I wind up loving it,” he added.

{mosads}Trump last week, while meeting with lawmakers to discuss immigration policy, reportedly questioned why the U.S. was accepting so many immigrants from “shithole countries” like Haiti, El Salvador and African nations. He allegedly suggested the U.S. should instead take in more immigrants from places like Norway.

The comments drew significant backlash, with multiple lawmakers, including Haitian-American GOP Rep. Mia Love (R-Utah), calling the remarks racist.

Trump denied he made the comment, and Republican Sens. Tom Cotton (Ark.) and David Perdue (Ga.) have since said they did not hear Trump say “shithole countries.”

O’Brien initially announced his plans to film in Haiti in a tweet on Sunday.

He has previously done shows in Cuba, Mexico, Israel and elsewhere as part of his “Conan Without Borders” series.
