Late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel came to Michelle Wolf’s defense over the backlash to her set at the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner.
“Dear ‘the media’ – [Michelle Wolf] was FUNNY,” Kimmel tweeted Sunday. “Hire a juggler next year.”
Wolf, a former “Daily Show” comedian, sparked a wave of backlash from conservatives and members of the media, many of whom said her comments about White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders in particular crossed a line.
{mosads}Some, including former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci, have even called for the WHCA to apologize to Sanders.
Other comedians have come to Wolf’s defense, including Kathy Griffin, who praised Wolf for her “fearless” performance and said that she did what she “was hired to do.”
President Trump did not attend the dinner for the second year in a row, holding a rally in Michigan instead.
Kimmel has long been a sharp critic of the GOP and the Trump administration, and has been particularly visible in the political spotlight over the past couple of years with his emotional monologues about issues like health care and gun control.
