Jack Nicklaus praises Tiger Woods for comments on Trump

Golfing legend Jack Nicklaus on Wednesday praised Tiger Woods for his response to a question about President Trump earlier this week when he said people “have to respect the office.”

Nicklaus, who supports Trump, said on the Golf Channel’s “Morning Drive” that he “couldn’t have agreed with Tiger more.”

{mosads}“Whether it’s Barack Obama or Donald Trump in the office of the president, you respect the office,” Nicklaus said. “My political views might be different from somebody else’s political views, but it doesn’t make any difference. The office of the president is the head of the greatest country in the world.”

When asked Sunday by a reporter what he would say to those who question his relationship with Trump, Woods said, “We all must respect the office”.

“Well, he’s the president of the United States. You have to respect the office,” Woods said after the final round of the Northern Trust. “No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.”

Woods and Trump were seen playing golf together last year.

Trump praised Woods for his recent comments, tweeting that the “Fake News Media worked hard to get Tiger Woods to say something that he didn’t want to say.”

“Tiger wouldn’t play the game — he is very smart. More importantly, he is playing great golf again!” Trump added.

Nicklaus was a vocal supporter of Trump during his 2016 campaign, saying that Trump was “awakening the country.”
