Jimmy Buffett, singer-songwriter and ‘Mayor of Margaritaville,’ dies at 76

Legendary musician Jimmy Buffett, known for breakout hit “Margaritaville” and restaurant empire Margaritaville Café has died on Friday night, according to his official social media accounts and website. 

“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs. “He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many,” the statement read

The statement did not disclose his cause of death, but the singer-songwriter was hospitalized in May, causing him to reschedule his concerts, according to a previous post to X, formerly known as Twitter.

Buffett was 76, leaving behind his wife Jane Slagsvol and three children. 

In addition, Buffett led a prolific music career, where he released 30 consecutive albums since 1970. He then turned to business, building a lifestyle empire of restaurants, apparel, beverages, and other ventures.
