Santos has message for ex-colleagues: ‘I’ll outlive them’
Former Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) has a message for his ex-colleagues in Congress, saying he’ll “outlive them.”
“I’ll be back,” the New York Republican said in an interview with comedian Ziwe, released Monday on YouTube.
“I’m 35. They’re all in their 50s. I’ll outlive them,” Santos told the political satirist, whose full name is Ziwe Fumudoh.
“Each and last one of them,” Santos added.
“That is so menacing,” Ziwe replied to a laugh from Santos. “I feel threatened and I’m not even in the House of [Representatives,]” she said.
Santos’s remarks come after the House voted earlier this month to expel the scandal-plagued lawmaker from Congress. Santos faces federal indictment on 23 counts of wire fraud, identity theft and other campaign finance charges.
In his interview with Ziwe, Santos slammed his former peers, calling them “hacks.”
“They’re not doing anything other than lying to you. If a politician’s mouth is moving on Capitol Hill, they’re lying to you,” he said.
“But I’m looking at a politician, and your mouth is moving and I feel like you’re lying to me,” Ziwe said.
“I’m not a politician — never was, never will be,” Santos insisted.
“I was an elected public servant for 11 months,” he said.
In his sit-down with Ziwe, Santos also failed to name several civil and gay rights leaders.
“Who the hell is James Baldwin?” Santos said when asked what the acclaimed “The Fire Next Time” author meant to him.
“I have no clue who that is,” Santos said when asked the same question about Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in California’s history.
Santos called trailblazing transgender activist Marsha P. Johnson a “very respectful, honorable person.”
“Respectful and honorable in what way?” asked Ziwe.
“On all the stances and all the work,” Santos said.
Questioned about Bowen Yang’s impression of him on “Saturday Night Live,” Santos — who’s found success on Cameo — quipped, “I think he deserves an EGOT.”
