UK prime minister shares Christmas video with ‘Home Alone’ twist

United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had a bit of fun this holiday season, posting a video on social media parodying the beloved 1990 film “Home Alone” and taking a subtle dig at Prince Harry’s reportedly shaky status with the British royal family.

In the video, which begins with the setup, “One Christmas night …,” Sunak is seen handwriting a letter at his desk at No. 10 Downing St., the prime minister’s official residence and office, before he exclaims, “Am I the only one here?”

After engaging in a series of antics, including a game involving soda cans, some snuggles with No. 10’s Chief Mouser, a spaghetti (and syrup) dinner eaten while watching the movie “Elf” and a marshmallow roast over the fireplace, Sunak answers a ringing, unattended press phone with dread.

“Harry, you’ve got the wrong number!” Sunak hurriedly exclaims before hanging up the phone, before the words “Merry Christmas” appear on the screen.

Harry — the 39-year-old son of King Charles III — and his wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, stepped down from their roles as full-time working members of the royal family in 2020 over privacy concerns and moved to California. They have two children, who they are raising in the United States but maintain royal titles.

The couple’s contentious, high-profile split from the royal family has often garnered headlines in the U.K. and beyond.

Sunak’s video prompted #WrongNumberHarry to become a trending topic on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, as people joked about the little dig at the end.
