Jon Stewart to return to ‘The Daily Show’ as once-a-week host
Jon Stewart will be returning to “The Daily Show” as a part-time host and executive producer.
Stewart will host the Comedy Central show on Monday nights throughout the 2024 election cycle starting Feb. 12 and is expected to be the executive producer on every episode through at least 2025, the network announced Wednesday. There will continue to be a rotating line-up of other hosts brought in throughout the week from the news team at “The Daily Show.”
“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,” Chris McCarthy, chief executive of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement.
“In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit,” he added.
Stewart served as the show’s host for 16 years before stepping down in 2015. Comedian Trevor Noah then took the reins and served as the host of “The Daily Show” for seven years before announcing his departure in 2022.
Since then, Comedy Central has employed a rotating number of hosts for the popular talk show as they looked to find a permanent host. Longtime correspondent Roy Wood Jr., one of those rotating hosts, announced last year that he would be leaving the show to pursue other endeavors.
Stewart’s show on Apple’s streaming service was cancelled in October due to reported creative differences and concerns over the content matter.
Since leaving “The Daily Show,” Stewart has been frequently spotted on Capitol Hill to advocate for the health of 9/11 first responders and veterans who have been exposed to burn pits.
