Liz Cheney hails Taylor Swift as ‘national treasure’ amid conservative attacks

Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) hailed pop music superstar Taylor Swift on Wednesday amid criticism she is facing from conservatives.

“Taylor Swift is a national treasure,” Cheney wrote in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

The conservative side of social media has been flooded with conspiracy theories about the singer, accusing the NFL of fixing games in favor of the Kansas City Chiefs — the team Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, plays for — so the celebrity couple can attend the Super Bowl and endorse President Biden’s reelection campaign after a Chiefs championship win.

“I wonder who’s going to win the Super Bowl next month,” former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy wrote Monday on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“And I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall. Just some wild speculation over here, let’s see how it ages over the next 8 months,” Ramaswamy continued.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper mocked conspiracy theories about Swift, the NFL and the Democratic Party on his show “The Lead.”

“Far-right conspiracy theorists certainly don’t seem to be following Taylor Swift’s advice to just ‘Shake It Off,’” Tapper said Tuesday.
