New Adam Schiff campaign video narrated by Hollywood actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Rep. Adam Schiff’s (D-Calif.) campaign for Senate released a video Thursday featuring narration by actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
The video notes different parts of Schiff’s life and career, from his youth in the town of Danville, Calif., to his stint as an impeachment manager in former President Trump’s first impeachment trial in 2020.
“He prosecuted polluters,” Gordon-Levitt says in the video. “He fought to bring back millions to California to curb homelessness. That is a commitment to a better tomorrow that only sees itself true if we fight for our values today, if we rise to the challenge, take on the big fights.”
Last week, one of Schiff’s rivals for the upcoming Senate primary in California, Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.), went after him for a different video. Porter took aim at Schiff for what she called a “brazenly cynical ad.”
“Adam Schiff knows he will lose to me in November,” Porter said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “That’s what this brazenly cynical ad is about—furthering his own political career, boxing out qualified Democratic women candidates, and boosting a Republican candidate to do it. We need honest leadership, not political games.”
The Golden State has a nonpartisan primary on March 5 in which the two candidates with the most votes on the ballot move on to the general election. Schiff has led in polls over the past few months.
The Schiff advertisement goes after Republican candidate and former baseball player Steve Garvey, noting Garvey and Schiff as the “two leading candidates for Senate.”
“Steve Garvey, the leading Republican, is too conservative for California,” the voiceover says. “He voted for Trump twice and supported Republicans for years, including far-right conservatives. Adam Schiff, the leading Democrat, defended democracy against Trump and the insurrectionists. He helped build affordable housing, lower drug costs and bring good jobs back home. The choice is clear.”
