A top HBO executive has said the network will not remake Game of Thrones’s last season despite some loud criticism of the hit show’s final chapter.
Speaking at the Television Critics Association’s press tour, president of programming Casey Bloys said a season 8 remake was not “seriously considered” according to Entertainment Weekly.
{mosads}“There are very few downsides to having a hugely popular show,” Bloys said. “One I can think of, when you try to end it, many people have opinions on how to end it. I think that comes with the territory.”
He also referenced an online petition asking for the season to be redone “with competent writers” that had nearly 1.7 million signatures as of Thursday morning.
“The petition shows a lot of enthusiasm and passion for the show, but it wasn’t something we seriously considered,” he said. “I can’t imagine another network would.”
The final season of Game of Thrones has received a record 32 Emmy nominations and had an average of more than 44 million viewers, according to EW.
