Eva Longoria to campaign for Biden in Phoenix

Eva Longoria is aiming to give a star-studded push at mobilizing Latina support for President Biden’s reelection bid, headlining a campaign event in Phoenix.

The Monday gathering in swing state Arizona featuring the “Flamin’ Hot” director will include a group of mothers and young Latinas, a campaign official told ITK.

The goal of the event, according to the Biden campaign, is to emphasize “that Latinas of all generations in Arizona will be critical in motivating their family members and their community to stop [former President] Trump, who has demonized Latinos throughout his political career and is pursuing an agenda that would be particularly devastating for Latino families.”

It’s not the first time that Longoria has used her platform to attempt to give a boost to Democratic presidential candidates.

In 2012, she served as one of several national co-chairs of then-President Obama’s reelection campaign. 

Longoria spoke out against Mike Pence during the 2016 White House race, saying in a video released by the Democratic National Committee that Mexicans aren’t “a thing,” after the then-GOP vice presidential candidate had said Democrats “whipped out that Mexican thing again.” The 49-year-old former “Desperate Housewives” star, who was born in Texas, also delivered remarks at the 2016 and 2020 Democratic National Conventions. 

Last year, the Bidens hosted a showing of Longoria’s directorial debut, “Flamin’ Hot,” at the White House. 

A poll released last month found that Trump’s favorability had risen among Latinos, while Biden’s had fallen. Biden’s favorability among Latinos has fallen 6 points since last summer — 47 percent in June 2023 to 41 percent last month, according to the survey from Axios/Ipsos. Trump’s favorability among Latinos in the same time period rose from 29 percent to 32 percent.
