Comedian Jon Stewart said on “The Daily Show” Monday that former President Trump was “workshopping nicknames” for President Biden over the weekend.

“I don’t think Trump has got it in him to go after [Vice President] Kamala Harris,” Stewart said. “He’s been fighting Joe Biden for six years. It’s all he knows. He misses the fight so much. He was still workshopping nicknames for Joe Biden this weekend.”

A clip then played of Trump at his recent rally in Montana asking the crowd which nickname for Joe Biden they preferred between “Crooked Joe” and “Sleepy Joe,” monikers he has used against the president in the past.

“This is sad,” Stewart said following the clip. “It’s like seeing an old man talking to an empty spot on the bench. And then you realize, that’s where his wife used to sit.”

Harris has been gaining momentum after Biden left the presidential race last month, and she has pulled slightly ahead of Trump in an average of national polls from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ. The vice president garners 47.8 percent support and the former president earns 46.4 percent support, according to the aggregate.

Trump has slung insults at Harris as her political star has risen and questioned her racial identity. Backers of the former president have experienced frustration over his lack of discipline when it comes to campaign messaging in recent days.

“The winning formula for President Trump is very plain to see,” former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway told Fox Business anchor Larry Kudlow on Monday. “It’s fewer insults, more insights and that policy contrast.”

Conway also said that Trump has “got that hunger, swagger, underdog, underestimated of 2016 back,” adding, “and you overlay that with the four-year presidential record where we did have growth — we did have wage growth, we had low unemployment and the whole nine that you and I know.”

The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.
