Trump to attend Kennedy Center board meeting after takeover

President Trump will visit the Kennedy Center on Monday for a tour and to attend a board meeting weeks after overhauling the cultural institution’s leadership and installing himself as its chair.

Trump is slated to visit the Kennedy Center at 3 p.m. EDT, according to the White House.

The president in early February announced he was ending the terms of multiple members of the Kennedy Center board and announcing a new board, led by him. He later appointed Richard Grenell, his envoy for special missions and a staunch ally, as interim executive director of the center for performing arts.

Trump has since announced additional appointments to the board who match his political leanings, including Fox News’s Laura Ingraham and Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo.

Trump and his allies have sought to exert more control over the type of programming at the center, with the president saying there would be no more drag shows or “anti-American propaganda.”

Several celebrities have announced boycotts of the venue in response to Trump’s moves, and producers of the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” canceled upcoming performances at the Kennedy Center.
