Key takeaways from Kevin Federline’s tell-all book about Britney Spears

Britney Spears’ ex-husband Kevin Federline has revealed details about his marriage in his new tell-all book, “You Thought You Knew.”

Federline and Spears were married a little over two years and share two kids, sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, but have been a tabloid fixture since they got married in 2004.

A description of the book reads:

Kevin Federline: dancer, father, accidental pop culture icon. His star rose electrifying stages alongside Pink, Destiny’s Child, Aaliyah, and more. But it was his turbulent marriage to pop superstar Britney Spears that made him a household name and triggered a relentless media storm, reducing him to a caricature in a world that barely knew him.

What you thought you knew was only half the story.

What does Federline’s book say about Spears?

Federline paints Spears as a toxic mother

Federline, also known as K-Fed, alleges that the “Oops I Did It Again” singer drank while she was pregnant, and drank and did cocaine while she was breastfeeding, according to Vulture.

“What shook me the most was realizing how fragile everything was. If she could make a choice like that, breastfeeding our boys while high, what else was she capable of? And how many times had it happened before without me knowing?” Federline writes.

He said that seeing Spears drinking while pregnant “tripped the silent alarms in my head.”

The Popozão rapper said he had considered divorcing Spears, saying she was spiraling out of control. However, Spears was the one who filed for divorce.

Claims Spears held knife while watching sons

Federline also alleges that the “Toxic” singer once held a knife in her hand while watching their sons sleep.

“They would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep — ‘Oh, you’re awake?’ — with a knife in her hand. Then she’d turn around and pad off without explanation,” he writes in “You Thought You Knew.”

He adds, “Other nights, they’d wake to the sound of her screaming bloody murder or smashing things in the house. All of this terrified them.”

Federline says: I wrote the book to clear my name

In the press, the “America’s Most Hated” performer has been portrayed as a villain, he says, adding that he wrote “You Thought You Knew” to clear his name for his sons, Vulture reports.

“My kids were still young, still finding their way through a world that was already heavy on their shoulders,” he writes. “I didn’t want to make it heavier. I didn’t want to stir shit up when they were the ones who’d feel it most. So I waited,” he writes.

Federline’s NDA with Spears expired

Federline writes that he hasn’t said anything about his relationship with the “Circus” singer, despite the public and press being vocal about his relationship with Spears.

Federline signed a nondisclosure agreement after he divorced Spears in 2007, but it has now expired, allowing him to reveal details about his past with the pop star, according to The Hill’s sister network NewsNation.

The terms of the divorce were that Federline had to stay quiet until both Sean Preston and Jayden turned 18.
