(NewsNation) — A new book reveals Prince William and Kate Middleton’s feelings about William’s disgraced uncle, Prince Andrew, who recently renounced his Duke of York title amid ongoing headlines about his friendship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
While the Prince and Princess of Wales have not publicly commented on alleged issues with Andrew, in her Substack “Fresh Hell,” royal biographer Tina Brown claims that William and Kate “can’t abide” Prince Andrew and don’t want him near their new “forever home,” according to US Weekly.
Andrew, alongside his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, has lived at Windsor’s Royal Lodge for decades rent free.
The former Duke of York, 65, doesn’t have to leave the lodge until 2078, according to a lease agreement obtained by the Sunday Times.
Prince Andrew allegedly disparages Kate Middleton
According to author Andrew Lownie, who wrote about the former Duke of York in his biography “Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York,” Andrew called Kate “rude” and “unkind,” which allegedly caused a feud with Prince William.
William reportedly sees his uncle as a “problem” and has become more frustrated with Andrew in recent years.
“William has a very strong sense of public duty and is doing his best to keep the show on the road,” Lownie wrote in the book, the New York Post reported.
“He’s all about doing things the right way and has enough on his plate without having to think about his uncle,” he said.
Prince William to ban Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson from royal events
William was consulted on the decision to strip his uncle of his royal titles, according to Buckingham Palace, but was concerned that the “Andrew problem” would continue and had decided to take a stronger stance by banning Andrew from all parts of royal life, including his coronation when he becomes king.
In January, emails published in court documents from the U.K.’s Financial Conduct Authority showed that Prince Andrew was in contact with Epstein after claiming he ended their friendship in 2010, according to the BBC.
In a February 2011 email, Andrew reportedly wrote to Epstein, “Keep in close touch and we’ll play some more soon!!!!”
Epstein died by suicide in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial.
