Bradley Cooper says he was held at knifepoint on NYC subway: ‘It was pretty insane’

Bradley Cooper revealed he was held at knifepoint on a New York City subway in October 2019, which the “Star is Born” and “Hangover” actor called “pretty insane.”

Cooper was traveling to pick up his four-year-old daughter from school. The actor, now 46, was wearing a hat and sunglasses so as not to attract attention when a man approached him on the subway at 11:45 a.m, Cooper recalled on the podcast “Armchair Expert” with Dax Shephard.

Cooper, who had headphones in and could barely hear anything, saw the man was holding a two- to three-inch blade, with a wooden handle and pointing it at him.

“I remember seeing the person’s eyes and was taken by how young they were,” Cooper recalled.

The actor then ran, jumping the turnstile in the subway and fleeing to the entrance.

“I just started booking, just started running,” he said. “I jumped over the turnstile, hid around the white, tiled entrance to the subway (and) took my phone out. (The suspect) jumped over, running away. I took a photo of him. Then I chased him up the stairs. He started running up 7th Avenue.”

Cooper took two more photos of the man and reported the incident to a nearby police officer. He then picked up his daughter from school, as planned.

Though Cooper wasn’t injured or robbed, he said the incident was “crazy.”

“My guard was down,” he said. “I realized I had gotten way, way too comfortable in this city.”
