Clinton hawks ‘But Her Emails’ hats after report on Trump documents

Hillary Clinton is hawking new “But Her Emails” hats, selling the headwear amid a report that former President Trump disposed of documents in the toilet of the White House.

Clinton highlighted the $30 caps on Friday, writing on Instagram that they were being offered “just in time for Galentine’s Day, and the news that Trump was flushing documents down White House toilets.”

The 2016 Democratic presidential nominee’s post included an edited throwback photo of her sporting a hat with the message “But Her Emails” written in pink capital letters.

The items are described on a sales site as “black unstructured dad hats” that are union-made in the United States.

Clinton faced scrutiny and made headlines in 2016 over her use of personal email server while secretary of State, with the practice becoming a major political issue during her presidential campaign against Trump.

Clinton’s emails were subject to numerous investigations including by the FBI, which declined to charge her with violating federal records-keeping requirements or other crimes.

On Thursday, New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman reports in her forthcoming book that staffers at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. regularly found ripped-up printed paper clogging a toilet in the presidential residence when Trump was in office.

The staffers, according to Haberman, believed that Trump was flushing pieces of paper down the toilet.

Trump called the claim “categorically untrue” in a statement, saying it was “made up by a reporter in order to get publicity for a mostly fictitious book.”

In light of the report on Trump’s handling of documents, critics have assailed what they call the outsized focus on Clinton’s emails by the media.

In a Thursday tweet, Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill said the “two-year frenzy” over the former first lady’s emails was “bullshit.”

“Call it sexism, Republican depravity, ratings-hungry media, it’s time we acknowledge it was bullshit, and write that into the history books,” Merrill said.

Purchases of Clinton’s “But Her Emails” hat go to her Onward Together group, which she said will work to “protect voting rights, help young progressives run for office, and more.” It’s not the first time that Clinton has issued an email-related product: Onward Together also sells a $20 “But Her Emails” mug.
