Which members have cited ‘Duck Dynasty’ on House and Senate floors?

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) have both cited “Duck Dynasty” in speeches on the Senate and House floors.

{mosads}Yes, references to the A&E show can be found in the Congressional Record. Lawmakers such as Cruz have come to Phil Robertson’s defense amid the recent uproar over the reaity TV personality’s recent anti-gay comments. Those remarks surfaced after lawmakers had skipped town for the holidays.

In September, Cruz showed his love for the show by saying there “are glimmers of hope” for the country.

“Look right now at one of the most popular televsion shows in the United States — ‘Duck Dynasty.’ This is a show about a God-fearing family of successful entrepreneurs who love guns, who love to hunt and who believe in the American dream,” Cruz said.

The Tea Party lawmaker recited lines from the show, such as Robertson’s son Willie saying, “You put five rednecks on a mower, it’s going to be epic” and his brother, Si, saying, “Your beard is so hairy, even Dora can’t explore it.”

Cruz quoted Robertson as simply saying, “Happy, happy, happy” as well. Cruz added that “when we defund ObamaCare, we are all going to be happy, happy, happy.”

DeSantis, meanwhile, last month noted that now-Rep. Vance McAllister’s (R-La.) special election win was helped by an endorsement from the “Duck Dynasty” family.

DeSantis said, “We had a newly sworn-in member take the oath of office to become a member of this body. Part of it is neat because he got endorsed by ‘Duck Dynasty,’ which I know a lot of people like.”
