Lawmaker fences off with Stephen Colbert

Apparently fencing is permitted in the Cannon House Office Building, as Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio) donned a mask and did her best lunge to battle Stephen Colbert.

In a pre-taped sketch that aired Tuesday on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report,” Fudge, 61, is seen going head-to-head with the comedian and soon-to-be “Late Show” host. The duel was part of Colbert’s recurring “Better Know a District” segment, in which the funnyman profiles lawmakers and the areas they represent.

{mosads}Doing his best “The Princess Bride” impression, Colbert declares, “My name is Stephen Colbert. You dissed Paul Ryan. Prepare to die.”

Colbert also sets the terms of the fencing showdown. “If I win, you make me a member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). If you win, I’ll make you a member of the White Caucus. I’ll talk to somebody,” he says to the CBC chairwoman.

“Deal!” Fudge shouts.

Buzz of the fencing competition first leaked out on social media when it was filmed in July. Fudge reportedly fenced as a high school student.

But despite her fencing prowess, Colbert ultimately came out victorious in the intense match, with a score of 3–1 against the congresswoman. “I won,” he cries, as a crowd of onlookers applaud.

“Congresswoman, I accept your defeat, graciously. I’m now a proud member of the Congressional Black Caucus,” Colbert says.
