“I think Donald Trump is going to be our next president,” the country music legend tells Billboard magazine when asked to weigh in on the 2016 race.
{mosads}The “Coal Miner’s Daughter” singer, 83, says to the mag in its Dec. 12 issue that she’s met the real estate mogul before. “I like him,” Lynn says, before adding with a laugh, “I mean, Donald’s Donald.”
Lynn says she’s also a fan of President Obama, who presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor, in 2013. “I like Obama, and I like his wife. I liked Bill Clinton, too.”
While she’s performed at the White House for a multitude of past commanders in chief, including Presidents Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush, Lynn says her favorite moment came when she crooned for President Jimmy Carter in 1977.
“There’s no backstage, and the place was packed,” Lynn recalls. “But he sent me a note that said, ‘Sing ‘One’s on the Way’ and ‘They Don’t Make ‘Em Like Daddy Anymore’ and ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter.’ ” I thought, ‘Well, shoot, this is what he wants me to sing,’ so I sang them.”
