Bradley Whitford: ‘Trump turned my hair white’
Bradley Whitford says Democrats haven’t swung too far left, but rather Republicans have gone so “batshit crazy,” they’ve made him go gray.
“George Bush looks like Abbie Hoffman now,” Whitford quipped of the anti-war activist in a Thursday appearance on CBS’s “The Late Show” after host Stephen Colbert asked if Democrats have gone “too far to the left.”
{mosads}“I do not think that the party is swinging too far to the left. I think the right has gone absolutely batshit crazy,” said Whitford, who played fictional White House deputy chief of staff Josh Lyman on the NBC political drama “The West Wing.”
“The GOP,” Whitford continued, has “become the party for accumulation for the few and corruption.”
“And I firmly believe that any Democrat who I can see possibly running is what this country is all about, which is … fulfilling the unfulfilled promise of opportunity for all. And I think the Democrats will do that,” Whitford, 59, added.
“[President] Donald Trump turned my hair white and causes constant stress,” Whitford said to laughs from the audience.
The star of National Geographic’s “Valley of the Boom” — who agreed with Colbert’s characterization of him as a “lefty liberal” — hit the campaign trail for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016.
On Thursday, Whitford offered support for a potential 2020 White House bid from Colbert’s other late-night guest, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.).
“She is my senator. I adore her, I love her,” Whitford said, adding he hopes Harris runs.
