Cardi B expresses solidarity with federal workers not getting paid

Cardi B released a video Wednesday sharply criticizing President Trump over the ongoing government shutdown and for his order this week summoning some federal workers back to work without pay.

In a short message posted to Instagram, the rapper excoriated Trump over requiring workers to work without pay, which is common during government shutdowns.

{mosads}”I just want to remind y’all, because it’s been a little over three weeks…Trump is ordering and summoning federal government workers to go back to work without getting paid,” Cardi B says in the video.

She also blasted comparisons that Republicans have made between the ongoing shutdown and the 2013 shutdown that resulted from a dispute over the Affordable Care Act’s implementation.

“Now, I don’t want to hear y’all motherf—ers talk about ‘Obama shut down the government for seventeen days’ — yeah, bitch, for health care! So your grandmother can go check her blood pressure…with no motherf—ing problem.”

The message was Cardi B’s second attack aimed at Trump over Instagram in just a day. The rapper blistered Trump in an Instagram Live video earlier Wednesday, accusing him of promising his supporters that his administration would construct a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border while knowing that he could not follow through.

“You promised these f—ing racist rednecks that you was gonna build the wall, but you know that was impossible,” Cardi B said. “But they voted for you and you promised them this shit so now you have to do it.”

The video trended on Twitter later Wednesday evening, and caught the notice of Democratic senators, including Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.). The three debated on a thread started by Hawaii Sen. Brian Schatz (D) over whether to retweet the video, while not endorsing the rapper’s coarse language.

The ongoing government shutdown reached day 26 on Wednesday with no end in sight, as Democrats in the House have refused to meet Trump’s demand for more than $5 billion in funding for construction of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump, meanwhile threatened earlier this month in a meeting with Democratic congressional leaders to keep the shutdown going for “years” if his demands are not met.
