Jane Lynch scolds Warren for ‘wine caves’ criticism: ‘Class warfare is ugly’
Award-winning actress Jane Lynch on Friday called out Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) over her attacks on South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s (D) recent fundraising.
“Hello everyone. Billionaires in wine caves have as much right to say who gets to be president as waitresses in diners and plumbers in my bathroom. Class warfare is ugly, @ewarren Thanks for listening everyone,” Lynch tweeted Friday.
Lynch’s criticism comes after Warren swiped at Buttigieg during the Democratic debate Thursday night. Warren remarked that “people who put down $5,000 for a check” for their candidate of choice “drown out the voices of everyone else,” and later attacked Buttigieg directly for a recent Napa fundraiser that was held in a “wine cave.”
“We made the decision many years ago that rich people in smoke-filled rooms would not pick the next president of the United States,” Warren said. “Billionaires in wine caves should not pick the next president of the United States.”
But Buttigieg defended his fundraising efforts, saying, “We’re in the fight of our lives right now. Donald Trump and his allies have made is abundantly clear that they will stop at nothing.”
“This is our chance, this is our only chance to defeat Donald Trump and we shouldn’t try to do it with one hand tied behind our backs,” Buttigieg continued, pointing out that he was the only candidate on the stage Thursday who was neither a millionaire nor billionaire.
Twitter users quickly ridiculed Lynch’s comments Friday, comparing her to her character in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” a wealthy comedian whose puts on a crass stage persona.
