Kylie Jenner Instagram post sparks 1500% user increase to voter registration site
A non-partisan voter registration organization said it saw a surge in users visiting its online voter registration and verification tool after reality star and makeup mogul Kylie Jenner included a link to the online resources along with an Instagram post encouraging her followers to vote.
Jenner linked to Vote.org’s online tool in her Instagram bio and directed her 196 million followers to check it out in a post on the social media platform Monday.
“But are you registered to vote? click the link in my bio.. let’s make a plan to vote together,” Jenner wrote in her caption.
A spokesperson for the organization said it saw a 1,500 percent increase in use through Instagram after Jenner’s post compared to the day before, as well as an 80 percent total increase in users of the voter registration verification tool from the day before.
“Following Kylie Jenner’s Instagram post, the surge in interactions with Vote.org‘s registration verification tool speaks to an energy among young Americans who want to make sure their voices are heard this election,” Vote.org CEO Andrea Hailey said in a statement.
Hailey said the organization’s online resources aim to lower the barriers to political engagement and simplify what young voters need to register and cast a ballot this fall.
“By making voting easier, and in turn, getting more people to vote, we create a stronger, more representative democracy,” Hailey added.
Jenner’s post had more than 9 million likes as of Wednesday evening.
