UPDATED: ‘House Party’ reunion fundraiser canceled
A “House Party” reunion to raise money for voter registration and mobilization efforts has been canceled because of scheduling conflicts.
Stars from New Line Cinema’s classic ’90s movie — including: Kid ‘n Play’s Christopher Reid and Christopher Martin; Full Force’s Brian “B-Fine” George, Lucien “Bowlegged Lou” George Jr., and Paul Anthony; and Groove B. Chill’s Gene “Groove” Allen and Daryl “Chill” Mitchel — had been poised to participate in a virtual script reading on Friday.
The event — with a minimum $1 donation for viewers — was aimed at raising money for Rock the Vote, the nonpartisan organization. But organizers said Wednesday the gathering wasn’t happening “due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts.”
The team behind the fundraiser said it’s working to reschedule it for a later date.
Several groups have coordinated nostalgia-filled reunions that double as fundraisers this election cycle. Last month, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston joined an all-star cast for a reading of the 1982 film “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” that benefited various nonprofit coronavirus relief efforts. Earlier this month, actors Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey and Parker Posey joined together for a “Dazed and Confused” table reading that raised money for voting participation efforts in Texas.
