Golf star Tiger Woods announced Tuesday evening that he has left the hospital and is recovering at home weeks after he was seriously injured in a one-car crash on a California road.

Woods, who was initially unconscious when he was found in his crashed vehicle late last month, said in a statement that he was “happy to report that I am back home and continuing my recovery.”

“I am so grateful for the outpouring of support and encouragement that I have received over the past few weeks,” he wrote.

The golf legend added a message of thanks for the “incredible” doctors and medical staff at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, writing, “You have all taken such great care of me and I cannot thank you enough.”

“I will be recovering at home and working on getting stronger every day,” he added.

The professional golfer on the morning of Feb. 23 crashed his Genesis SUV into a sign in Rancho Palos Verdes, near Los Angeles, shortly after 7 a.m.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department earlier this month executed a search warrant to obtain the “black box” recording device from the car, a move the department characterized at the time as routine.

The affidavit stated that Woods sustained injuries and cuts to his face, as well as multiple fractures and compound fractures to his right leg.

The affidavit also stated that Woods told authorities that he did not remember driving the day of the crash, a statement which he later repeated at the hospital.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy John Schloegl, who submitted the affidavit, told USA Today Sports that the information on the black box could be used to help determine the cause of the crash.

“If somebody is involved in a traffic collision, we’ve got to reconstruct the traffic collision, if there was any reckless driving, if somebody was on their cell phone or something like that,” he said. “We determine if there was a crime. If there was no crime, we close out the case, and it was a regular traffic collision.”
