Netflix announces ‘Tiger King 2’

Netflix says it’s bringing back the “mayhem and madness” with a second season of its hit documentary series, “Tiger King.”

The streaming giant announced on Thursday that “Tiger King 2” will premiere before the end of the year.

“Tiger King” became a pop culture sensation when it debuted in March 2020. The main figure in the docuseries, Joe Exotic, who was born Joseph Maldano-Passage, was sentenced to 22 years in prison last year for his role in a murder-for-hire plot that targeted Carole Baskin, the founder and CEO of Big Cat Rescue, who was also featured in the mega-hit.

Then-President Trump joked that he would “take a look” at pardoning Exotic when asked by a reporter after the series launched. The “Tiger King” star didn’t receive a pardon from Trump.

In a video released by Netflix promoting the second season of the show, Baskin appears to be walking the halls of the Capitol, while Exotic is seen making a phone call from prison.

The original Netflix series also led to legislation being passed in the House that prohibits people from owning big cats, such as lions and tigers, and made it illegal for exhibitors to allow people to touch cubs.

The bill appeared in the documentary and was backed by Baskin.
