Elmo to help Michelle Obama harvest White House garden
Sesame Street’s Elmo and Rosita will join Michelle Obama at the White House on Wednesday to talk healthy food and to harvest the White House garden.
The popular Muppets will be on hand to promote Obama’s signature, anti-obesity Let’s Move! initiative.
The event follows the first lady’s conference on food marketing to children, where she called on companies to use their famous characters to promote healthy foods to kids.
School children from the District, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia will join in on the annual harvest of the White House kitchen garden.
The garden suffered during the recent government shutdown, as furloughs of federal workers affected the National Park Service, which cares for the White House grounds. The garden became filled with weeds and wildlife and some of the produce started to rot on the vines. Once the government reopened, the garden became cared for again.
