Sarah Palin trying to save John McCain — who would have ever thunk it?
He needs the Tea Partiers now — heck, he even needs basic conservatives now. So
Palin swallowed hard and took off for Arizona. Adding insult to injury, she appeared with McCain at the same
hotel where McCain operatives pulled the switch on the mic so she couldn’t
speak on election night.
She has been trashed as much by Republican operatives as she has by Democrats. But
that makes this all the more ironic. Many of those who came to the rally were
her supporters, not his. Her appearance succeeded in highlighting the
differences between these two as much as the similarities.
It was clear who got the most applause, clear who energized the crowd more, and
who brought the angry crowd to their feet.
Palin clearly was Queen of the Platitudes — no substance to the speech, just a
lot of “Hell No’s,” “You Betcha’s,” “They’re taking away our freedom’s.” But
she whipped up the crowd and the real question is, after all was said and done,
does she represent the beliefs and the approach of John McCain or J.D.
Hayworth?
Unfortunately for MCain, the jury may still be out on that one.
