Simple Things in Life

Christmas will be drastically different for many in our country. Financial chaos, global crisis and a surge in robberies and deadly violence have truly dampened the holiday spirit. Parents are emotionally distraught in not being able to have Santa meet their children’s many requests. The American workforce is finally awakening to the reality that these are times unlike ever before. Adolescents may be eagerly peering under a Christmas tree, hoping to catch a glimpse of presents that may never arrive.

But Christmas should be less about material things and more about family and loved ones.

The American people love life, freedom and their pursuit of happiness. This is what strengthens our incredible resolve and separates us from other nations around the world.

These United States will never completely implode. We have known since the founding of this great nation that the prospect of change is imminent. America has seen tougher times than it is seeing today. There is nothing to apologize for at a time when it is necessary to conserve. For in this season, it is necessary to conserve.

Let us free ourselves of any worry this season. When we woke up this morning we had life, health and strength, which are the necessary ingredients for change and to improve upon whatever circumstances that we may have today. One thing we know is that we are all in this together.

Remember what really matters in life is that we stand together as a nation to overcome any challenges that we have today, tomorrow or next week. That is who we still are: that shining city on a hill. Be thankful and grateful for the small and simple things in life.
