Al Gore and World Peace

What the hell does global warming have to do with world peace? That’s what a lot of people are asking, ever since Al Gore was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

And, of course, that’s just what the Nobel Prize committee wanted. That’s one of the reasons they honored Al Gore in the first place. They want people to face the disastrous consequences of global warming — by talking about Al Gore.

No doubt about it, if the scientists are right — and when have the scientists ever been wrong? — if the scientists are right about water shortages, crop failures, lost fisheries, environmental destruction, death and disease, and all the other disastrous effects of global warming … There will be a whole new kind of warfare, major confrontations among nations over natural resources.

As the Nobel Prize committee put it, failure to address the dangers of global warming could “unleash massive migrations, violent competitions for resources and, ultimately, threaten the very security of mankind.”

No doubt about it, continued failure to act on global security is a very real threat to world peace. The only people who deny that are those idiots who still deny that human activity contributes to global warming.

Unfortunately, one of those people is George W. Bush.
