There They Go Again
The Republican Party of “no” is in full swing. They’re BACK! And it isn’t just President Obama they want to see fail. They want to kill healthcare reform big time.
Listen to Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele as he parrots word for word Alex Castellanos’s memo — plagiarizes, actually (see the “Healthcare for Dummies” article by Dana Milbank in Tuesday’s Washington Post). Alex writes in his memo that “If we slow this sausage-making process down, we can defeat it.” Defeat it. Kill it. Scare them, scare them, scare them.
This effort hasn’t worked on healthcare for kids, it hasn’t worked on the stimulus bill, it hasn’t worked on energy legislation and it won’t work on healthcare.
Sadly, the Republican leaders do want this effort to fail; they do care more about the politics than they do about working together to pass a bill that turns around the healthcare mess.
Do you hear any talk from most of these Republicans of an alternative piece of legislation on healthcare? Nope. Do you hear them talk about working with President Obama to craft a bill that they can support? Very rarely. Do you have any sense at all that Michael Steele wants to see a solution to this problem? Read his lips. In the Milbank article, when asked about whether he wants coverage for all Americans, he answered: “I don’t do policy.”
Nope, he just does hatchet jobs.
