Mitt Romney and the future

“I don’t even know why Romney was on that show myself,” Nancy Pelosi said in an interview on MSNBC about Mitt Romney’s interview on Sunday on “Meet the Press.” 

{mosads}She said she is more interested in the future, The Hill reports. Possibly the “Meet the Press” people, whoever they may be, turned to Romney as they sensed a need — sensed a creepy, insidious feeling that we, America, are falling apart. It is in the nature of all things to fall apart. It is in our DNA. And we, America, may have already passed the threshold, and all which is left now is the unraveling.

We read histories of countries “falling” into chaos as if an angel took them and cast them down, but in a free state like America we don’t “fall.” We vote and legislate ourselves into decline and fall, and we may have already done so in 2008 and again in 2012, possibly earlier, possibly as far back as 1992. 

Romney said President Obama’s broken healthcare promise that people who like their insurance can keep it is “rotting away” his second term in office, The Hill reports. 

Three more years is a long time to rot.

If the White House wants to regain trust, Romney said, it needs to work with both parties to rebuild the law.

But that is not going to happen, and contention rises in the heartland now in equal and opposite proportion to the ineptitude of America abroad and the rot in Washington.

Then when it all unravels, we turn again in panic to find a way out of the wreckage. In America, at the end of the things, we could well turn to Romney.

I think he knows that. He knows that when everything else yields, he will still be standing.
