Presidential Campaign

McCain Vows to Bring Ayers into Debate

Tonight’s the big night: the third presidential debate. And it’s McCain’s last chance.

He lost the first two debates. He’s down 2-0. What can McCain do to turn this election around?

McCain says he’s got the answer. He plans to do what he chickened out on doing in the second debate: bringing up Bill Ayers. Accusing Barack Obama, to his face, of what he’s been saying in speeches and paid TV commercials: that Obama’s been palling around with terrorists, and therefore can’t be trusted as president.

If only McCain would do so. Should we be so lucky. Because that’s Obama’s chance to look John McCain in the face, and say:

John McCain, we’re in the worst financial crisis since the Depression — millions of Americans are losing their homes, jobs and savings – and you want to talk about Bill Ayers? Shame on you!

John McCain, you said you’d never run a Lee Atwater, Karl Rove, dirty campaign. When did you change your mind?

John McCain, speaking of friends: What about your palling around with convicted criminal Charles Keating? And what about your buddy G. Gordon Liddy, who told his radio listeners they should shoot federal agents in the head? “Kill the sons of bitches”?

Oh, God, I hope John McCain brings up Bill Ayers. Because this is Obama’s chance to expose McCain as the pure hypocrite he really is.
