Which is the real Barack?

In fact, when Scott Brown was elected in Massachusetts, it looked for a while that Obama might even walk away from healthcare altogether. In the cruelest spirit of all, pundits were even comparing him to Jimmy Carter.

Then suddenly, a couple of months ago, Obama Superman came back. He gave a rousing speech on healthcare to a joint session of Congress. He held town halls around the country, building support and rallying the troops. He hosted top Democrats and Republicans at Blair House for a seven-hour summit. And then he went to work, twisting arms.

And look what happened. Obama got his legislation through both houses of Congress. He signed healthcare reform into law. He pressured both the House and Senate to pass the follow-up reconciliation bill.

And, along the way, he just happened to find time to negotiate a new arms treaty with Russia and make 15 recess appointments.

No doubt about it, the old Barack Obama is back! And I don’t know about you, but I like the old Barack Obama better.
