Calif. earthquake shakes up congresswoman

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake that struck near Los Angeles on Monday morning made Florida Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R) “twist and shout.”

Ros-Lehtinen, who was in California on the first day of a one-week congressional recess, tweeted about her first experience with a quake.

She noted she has been through many hurricanes while representing Florida’s 27th Congressional District, but has never experienced an earthquake.

According to the U.S. Geological survey, the 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck at a depth of 9 kilometers below ground at 6:25 a.m. PT in Westwood, Calif. It was followed by a 2.7-magnitude quake an hour later.

Early reports showed no significant damage or injuries.

Rep. Tony Cardenas (D-Calif.), who represents the area, said his day started with more movement than Congress has seen all year.

Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Va.) sent his prayers to those in the area.
