An American tourist and her guide kidnapped in a Ugandan national park last week have been found safe, according to Ugandan officials.
“Police & its sister security agencies have today rescued Ms. Kimberley Sue, an American tourist together with her guide who were kidnapped while on an evening game drive at Queen Elizabeth National park,” the police said in a tweet Sunday. “The duo are in good health & in the safe hands of the joint security team.”
{mosads}Kimberley Sue Endecott, 35, and her Ugandan driver Jean Paul were reported kidnapped and held for a $500,000 ransom last Wednesday after four gunmen grabbed the two during a game drive, according to Ugandan police.
Upon receiving the ransom demands, police, believing the two and their kidnappers could still be in the park, sealed off all exit areas on the Uganda-Democratic Republic of Congo border.
“The kidnappers have escaped and operations continue,” Ugandan government spokesman Ofwono Opondo said in a tweet Sunday.
President Trump tweeted the news later on Sunday.
