House panel reschedules Kaspersky hearing for late October

A House panel has rescheduled a hearing featuring the CEO of Moscow-based cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Lab for later this month, a committee aide told The Hill on Friday.

The firm’s founder and CEO Eugene Kaspersky is slated to testify at the House Science Committee’s Oct. 25 hearing, which was set for last week but delayed due to scheduling conflicts.

“I look forward to hearing from the committee and having the opportunity to address their concerns directly,” Kaspersky said.

The rescheduled hearing comes after reports this week claimed that Russian-sponsored hackers leveraged Kaspersky Lab software to access a National Security Agency contractor’s home computer and steal hacking tools.

Those reports do not contain any evidence Kaspersky Lab was complicit in the attack, something the company denies.

The Department of Homeland Security recently barred the Russian-based firm from federal contracts for security reasons but has not announced any direct link between Kaspersky Lab and intelligence operations.
