Yoder, Messer land on K Street

Former Republican Reps. Kevin Yoder (Kan.) and Luke Messer (Ind.) are the next on the growing list of lawmakers who are headed to K Street firms after Congress.

Yoder, who lost his reelection to Democrat Sharice Davids, will be a partner at HHQ Ventures. Messer, who left the House to unsuccessfully run for the Senate, will be a principal at Faegre Baker Daniels Consulting.

Ex-Rep. Ben Quayle (R-Ariz.) is a partner at HHQ Ventures and called Yoder an “outstanding addition.”

“I looked at a lot of options and the opportunity to pour my heart and soul into helping this business grow was very attractive. We are a nimble, energetic, highly-experienced group,” Yoder said in the press release. “No other firm is better positioned to offer expert counsel on critical issues affecting public policy, markets, and business growth.”

Messer will be a co-chairman of Faegre Baker Daniels Consulting’s federal advocacy practice, Politico reported. He will work along side ex-staffer Ted Bristol, who worked for the House Appropriations Committee.

He was the House Republican Policy Committee chairman and was on the Education and the Workforce and Financial Services committees. Messer served in Congress since 2013.

Yoder served in Congress since 2011 and was on the House Appropriations Committee. HHQ works in federal advocacy services in the industrial chemical space, cybersecurity, defense, energy, financial services, transportation and technology, among other business sectors.

They are part of the growing list of former lawmakers joining lobbying firms. Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Wash.) announced on Monday he is joining Gordon Thomas Honeywell Governmental Affairs, and last week, Akin Gump announced they hired ex-Republican Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (Fla.) and Lamar Smith (Texas).
