Biz groups target Florida voters ahead of Democratic debates in Miami

Florida voters will be inundated with advertisements this week surrounding the 2020 Democratic presidential debates on Tuesday and Wednesday in Miami.

Business groups have launched digital ads pushing against Medicare for All and for President Trump’s trade agreement with Mexico and Canada, benefits from the GOP tax bill, and private equity investment in the Sunshine State.

{mosads}Trade Works for America, a group advocating for Congress to approve the new North American trade deal, has English- and Spanish-language ads on television and digital platforms across Florida, including the Miami-area, urging local lawmakers to support the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

The ads target Florida Democratic Reps. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, Donna Shalala, Stephanie Murphy, Bill Posey, Darren Soto, and Charlie Crist.

This is part of Trade Works for America’s multimillion-dollar, nationwide ad campaign to educate workers, job creators and lawmakers about the benefits of the USMCA.

The Reforming America’s Taxes Equitably (RATE) Coalition, which is focused on the corporate tax rate, released targeted Twitter ads in Miami highlighting economic momentum due to the GOP tax bill.

The ads question why any candidates would want to roll back tax reform and the coalition’s website includes a form to contact your representative about the benefits of tax reform.

The RATE Coalition’s members include Altria, AT&T, FedEx, Ford, Home Depot, UPS, and Verizon, among others.

One Nation, which is a group tied to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), launched a $4 million ad campaign for television, radio and digital platforms, to push against Medicare for All.

The ads highlight stories out of Canada about its single-payer health care system and long wait times for patients, NBC reported.

The American Investment Council, which advocates for private investment interests, released a digital ad touting private equity investment in Florida.

The 30-second ad highlights that private equity invests in over 1 million employees in Florida, which is one in nine of the state’s workers.
