Poll: Biden, Sanders lead Trump in Iowa

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and former Vice President Joe Biden both have the edge on President Trump in Iowa in a general election match-up, according to a new Emerson poll.

Biden leads Trump 53 percent to 47 percent in a head-to-head match-up, according to the poll, while Sanders leads Trump 51 percent to 49 percent.

{mosads}The poll found Trump ahead of other Democratic contenders. He led Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) 51 percent to 49 percent, Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) 52 percent to 48 percent and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) 54 percent to 46 percent.

Adding Starbucks founder Howard Schultz, who has floated an independent bid, to the match-up hurt both Trump and Warren in a head-to-head, according to the poll. In a three-way race, Trump was at 48 percent, with Warren at 45 percent and Schultz at 7 percent.

Schultz’s entry into the race would also cost Sanders his general election advantage, according to the poll, which put a three-way match-up at 47 percent for Trump, 45 percent for Sanders and 8 percent for Schultz.

The Emerson survey, released Sunday, also found South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg surging to third place among preferred Democratic candidates, with 11 percent of likely Iowa caucusgoers polled selecting Buttigieg as their chosen 2020 nominee.

The poll surveyed 707 adults between March 21 and 24. It had a margin of error of 3.6 percentage points.
