Dinner with Rep. Mary Bono Mack? Don’t serve cooked liver
At a Wednesday House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing on children’s food advertising guidelines, Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-Calif.) recalled a stomach-turning tale from her childhood: “I remember being forced to eat cooked liver as a child, and it would smell up the house for a week. But our mothers made us eat it because they thought it was good for us.” Blech!
{mosads}Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) gave the skinny on his expanding waistline, saying, “When I got elected to Congress, I weighed 160 pounds. I weigh 215 on a good day now.”
But he took full responsibility for his battle with the bulge: “The problem is not government guidelines. The problem is not knowing what’s nutritious. The problem is in our world today, we don’t take the time to do what’s necessary.”
Chew on that.
