My 5 Minutes with the President

Emme — supermodel, television personality, author, lecturer, clothing designer and nationally recognized women’s advocate for positive body image and self-esteem — has a clear mission: to awaken the inner magnificence inherent in each of us.

Emme burst onto the scene as the world’s first full-figured supermodel and, as host of E! Entertainment Television’s “Fashion Emergency,” she’s not only a fashion expert but an advocate for women on lifestyle issues, including body image, surviving cancer, mothering, downsizing and adopting a greener lifestyle. People magazine selected her twice as one of the “50 Most Beautiful People,” and Ladies’ Home Journal chose her as one of the “Most Important Women in America” and one of the “Most Fascinating Women of the Year.” She also was honored as a Glamour magazine “Woman of the Year” and as one of Biography magazine’s “25 Most Influential Women.”

Currently, Emme is the global ambassador for OneStopPlus.com, the leading plus-size online mall. In 2009 Emme hosted Fox’s “More to Love.” Emme’s best-selling books include True Beauty, Life’s Little Emergencies, Morning Has Broken: A Couple’s Journey Through Depression, What Are You Hungry For? and her newest release, a children’s book that addresses the reality that children have many hungers, including emotional ones.

Emme is a vocal advocate for people of all ages to be fit and to live a healthy lifestyle while simultaneously combating societal and peer pressure to be something other than what comes naturally. In 2010, Emme founded the Body Image Council, a subsidiary program of the National Eating Disorders Association over which she now presides. For more information, visit www.emmestyle.com

ROBIN BRONK: If you had five minutes in the Oval Office with President Obama, what would you discuss with him? What issue would you like him to know about?

EMME: I would ask if he had plans to improve the ever-deteriorating
educational and social system in the United States. To have him really see this as a national security threat of epic proportions. It is a travesty to have the leading free nation in commerce and innovation place such a low bar of excellence for their children [and it] is an embarrassment while we continue to funnel billions of dollars into war issues relating to oil and not into education and feeding those hungry in our nation.

RB: If you could give President Obama one piece of advice, what would that be?

E: Please meditate/pray/connect in silence each and every day, to gain inspiration and grace for himself, his family and our country.

RB: If you could ask President Obama one question, what would that be?

E: Would you want your daughters to follow in your footsteps as president one day?

RB: Would you ever consider a political career?

E: I have on numerous occasions. However, with the political process as it is and the speed in which things are done, I would become very disillusioned.

Bronk is a seasoned Capitol Hill strategist and advocate.
