Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Friday spoke publicly for the first time since testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.
Rodgers, who is out for 10 days due to the NFL’s COVID-19 protocol, appeared on the Pat McAfee Show where he addressed the controversy around his positive test. The 37-year-old veteran said at the beginning of the season that he was “immunized” when asked about his vaccination status.
“Look I’m not, you know, some sort of anti-vax flat-earther. I am somebody who is a critical thinker,” Rodgers told McAfee
“I believe strongly in bodily autonomy and ability to make choices for your body: Not have to acquiesce to some woke culture or crazed group of individuals who say you have to do something,” he continued. “Health is not a one-size-fits-all for everybody.”

The reigning league MVP said he has an allergy to an ingredient in the mRNA vaccines produced by Pfizer and Moderna, and he has consulted with Joe Rogan about various treatment regimens. Rodgers did not specify what allergy he had while also acknowledging he was concerned about reports of adverse reactions to the Johnson & Johnson vaccines at the time.
Rodgers said in August he would not judge people for their vaccination status and believed getting vaccinated was a personal choice.
“There’s guys on the team that haven’t been vaccinated. I think it’s a personal decision. I’m not going to judge those guys,” Rodgers said. “There are guys that’ve been vaccinated that have contracted COVID. It’s an interesting issue that I think we’re going to see played out the entire season.”
